This page explains how liability is allocated between MWT, suppliers, and clients, and what insurance coverage you should be aware of before booking.
MWT is a coordination intermediary, not an employer. All suppliers are independent contractors. MWT arranges bookings and manages communication — it does not employ performers or hold insurance on their behalf.
As a booking coordination service, MWT is responsible for:
MWT does not accept liability for:
Nothing in this page limits your statutory rights as a consumer. MWT’s liability is limited to the coordination fee paid, not the total booking value.
All suppliers accepted onto the MWT platform are expected to hold appropriate insurance for their trade. MWT strongly recommends that suppliers maintain:
Public Liability Insurance (PLI)
A minimum of £1 million cover is standard for performing musicians and event-based suppliers. Many venues require proof of PLI before permitting a performance.
Equipment Insurance
Instruments, PA systems, and other performance equipment carried to events should be covered against loss, theft, and accidental damage.
Income Protection (recommended)
Freelance musicians and teachers are advised to consider income protection or professional indemnity insurance appropriate to their trading structure.
MWT may ask suppliers to provide evidence of valid PLI before accepting bookings at certain venues or events. Suppliers who are members of the Musicians’ Union (MU) or Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) typically receive PLI as a benefit of membership.
Before confirming a booking, clients are encouraged to:
MWT is happy to assist with any of the above checks. Contact us at admin@temmykeys.com before your booking is confirmed if you have specific insurance requirements.
Suppliers engaged through MWT are treated as independent contractors. Each supplier is responsible for their own tax affairs, including self-assessment returns, National Insurance contributions, and VAT registration where applicable.
MWT does not deduct income tax or National Insurance at source. Suppliers who are engaged on a regular or ongoing basis (particularly teachers with recurring lesson schedules) are advised to seek independent advice on their IR35 status and employment classification.
Nothing in the MWT booking arrangement is intended to create an employment relationship between MWT and any supplier.
If you experience a problem relating to insurance or liability — such as a supplier causing damage at your event, or a dispute over a claim — contact MWT as soon as possible:
Subject line: Insurance or liability concern — [your booking reference]
MWT will act as intermediary and, where appropriate, connect you with the supplier’s insurer or assist you in gathering documentation for a claim. See our Complaints Procedure for escalation options if a dispute cannot be resolved directly.
